The Local Population
2013 Census information confirms Selwyn District is the fastest growing area of New Zealand. In the past five years the region’s population rose 33%, up from 33,642 to 44,595. During this period the average growth for New Zealand as a whole was 5.3%.
The township of Rolleston, immediately adjacent to Izone, is known for almost exponential growth. Between 1995 and 2006 its population grew in excess of 250% and is estimated to be more than 8000 (new Census information won’t be released in 2014). The town’s population is predicted to grow to 20,000 by 2026.
Izone's proximity to Christchurch also means an estimated 200,000 people reside within a half hour's drive of the industrial park.
The district is highly attractive to new residents thanks to diverse lifestyle opportunities and suitably priced residential properties. The region is also proving extremely popular among earthquake-affected Christchurch residents wanting to put down roots on more stable ground. In the year to June 2013, Selwyn District Council issued a record number of new dwelling consents – 1,084 in total, a 76% increase on the 616 consents issued the previous year.
The district experienced the strongest economic growth in New Zealand during 2012, with employment up by 9.5%, compared with the national average of 1%. 1,200 new jobs were created in Selwyn last year.
Recruitment
Izone is the only industrial hub in New Zealand to have a dedicated staff recruitment website. www.istaff.co.nz is Izone’s talent gateway. This free service allows Izone companies to advertise job vacancies and provides those looking to move to Selwyn with appropriate information about life in the district. Eventually istaff.co.nz will advertise jobs throughout the district and become the talent gateway to Selwyn.
